Aintree is home to one of the most talked about, most celebrated and most magical races in the world - the John Smith's Grand National. First run in 1839, the National was won impressively by Comply or Die in 2008.
It is strongly advised to book well in advance for this 3-day meeting as many enclosures sell out well in advance of the meeting.
There is no official dress code although smart is preferable for the Grand National meeting. Ladies Day (Friday) is a spectacle of colour as many people dress up in all the Enclosures.

NB: PLEASE NOTE For 2008, the John Smith's Grand National Meeting children 16 and under will have free access on the opening day of the meeting, but will need tickets on Friday and Saturday of the meeting which are priced at £10.

Badge holders have access to their own exclusive bar and catering facilities.
- Viewing:Sistering the Earl of Derby Stand, and offering two levels of tiered seating and raised standing terrace to the front of the grandstand with great views over the racecourse., and within close proximity to the new parade ring and winner's enclosure.

- Food and Drink: Badge holders have access to their own exclusive bar and catering facilities.
- Viewing: One of Aintree's impressive new grandstands, with superb viewing and facilities with two tiered levels of seating, offering the most spectacular view over the famous Grand National course. Standing badges within this grandstand are by the form of a raised terrace at the front of the stand from ground level.
- Food & Drink: The seating area on level 1 of the stand houses its own bar and catering facilities. There is also a selection of ground floor bars to the front of the stand.
Viewing: The Stand overlooks the winning post and is one of the first grandstand viewing areas to sell out. There is a seated area on level 1 as well as views of the entire racecourse from the standing area on the roof. You can also access the Parade Ring and Winner’s Enclosure.
- Food & Drink:
The John Parrett Bar is situated on level 1 and there is also the Tommy Wallis Suite to the rear of the stand which offers a full bar and catering facilities.
- Viewing: Opened in 1998, the stand is situated with views overlooking the home straight. The seating area is located on level 1 with excellent views of the racecourse. There is also disabled viewing. Please note that not all seats are under cover. The standing area is located on level 2 and these roof badges are always very popular. You can also access the Parade Ring and Winner’s Enclosure.
- Food & Drink: The prestigious Becher’s Suite is available on the second floor.
- Viewing:
The Stand is situated just after the winning post and offers spectacular views of the racecourse. The seats are all under cover and are located on level 1 accessible only via the stairs at the front and the standing area on the roof is always in high demand. You can also access the Parade Ring and Winner’s Enclosure.
- Tickets: Thursday £17; Friday £28; Saturday £35; Children: free except Friday and Saturday £10
- West Tip Seats This is a seperate seating area within the Tattersalls Enclosure. PricesThursday £17; Friday £34; Saturday £48.
- Food & Drink: The new improved Aintree Pavilion offers a range of catering and bar facilities. There is also the Irish Bar on the ground floor of the Princess Royal Stand and the Chair Pavilion. West Tip badge holders also have their own private bar and catering area.
- Viewing: This is the largest and most atmospheric Enclosure. There are big screens in the Aintree Pavilion. Viewing of the course is generally via the large Aintree Mound which is open air and has views of the race action down the home straight. There is also a large screen in front of this area. You can also access the Parade Ring and Winner’s Enclosure and shop in the trade stands to the rear of the Princess Royal Stand. The West Tip Seats offer excellent racecourse viewing from a temporary structure.
- Tickets: £16; Children free
- Food & Drink: There are catering and bar options in both areas.
- Viewing: The Enclosure is on the far side of the Melling Road, therefore there is no access to the Winner’s Enclosure or the Parade Ring. Viewing of other races than the John Smith's Grand National is via big screens in front of the lively Embankment on the start straight. There is also an unreserved seating area within the Embankment. This seating is not undercover.

Directions to Aintree racecourse using Google Maps By Car: From the south, leave M6 at J21A and join M62 west. Leave M62 at J6 to join M57, follow signs to the racecourse on the A59. From the north, leave M62 at J6 and join M58, follow signs for races. From the Mersey Tunnel, follow signs for Preston, then for A59, then sign for races. By Train: The nearest mainline station is Liverpool Lime Street. It is a short walk from here to Liverpool Central where you can catch special race trains to Aintree. Any train travelling to Ormskirk on the Northern Line will also stop at Aintree station, opposite the main entrance to the racecourse. |

- Children
The Sunday meeting in October is Family Day when a range of entertainment is put on. There are baby changing facilities at various sites around the racecourse. Please note that for the Grand National Meeting accompanied children aged 16 and under are admitted free to the Tattersalls Enclosure on Thursday and Friday only. On Saturday they are admitted free into the John Smith's No Nonsense Enclosure and into the Tattersalls Enclosure for £5. All other badges are charged at full price.
- Betting
Tote facilities and bookmakers are available in every area.
- Parking
For the Grand National meeting, there is a limited amount of space on the racecourse site, which must be booked in advance. It is recommended to use the park and ride scheme operational at the Brookfield School in Kirkby. This is free and well signposted from the M57 motorway (J6). The free coach transfer transports you to the Seeds Lane entrance of the racecourse and returns at the end of racing. There is a free onsite coach park for parties who have pre-booked the Tattersalls or Steeplechase car parks.
- Disabled
The County car park is suitable for disabled parking but all spaces are limited and early booking is essential. The Princess Royal Stand or the Queen Mother Stand offer the best facilities for disabled visitors with disabled toilets and lifts on all floors.
- Cash Machine
There are a number of cash points on site. Please note that machines will charge a convenience fee.
