Cartmel is a delightful Jumps course set in the beautiful scenery of the Lake District. It has been recently voted 'Britains most scenic racecourse'. There are 6 days of racing over the Spring and August Bank Holidays, as well as a barbecue raceday in July.

It is well worth planning a holiday to coincide. There's a great atmosphere and a traditional fun fair is just one of the added extras.

Highlights

The August Bank Holiday is Cartmel's finale when we race into two action-packed days of racing, and also gives you the chance to finish off your summer with one or two winners.

Whilst horses are the main attraction, racing at Cartmel offers much more, you will find a range of Trade Stalls, Bars, Refreshment Outlets and entertainment for all the family, including our hugely popular Fun Fair.

 Did you know?

The earliest written account of racing at Cartmel dates from 1856. It is almost certain that racing has taken place here since at least the middle of the fifteenth century when monks of the nearby priory entertained themselves in their leisure time by organising competitive racing on mules; no course bookmakers naturally, but little doubt some form of illegal gambling took place.

July meeting prices : For the July 16 meeting only, the racecourse will be opened into one enclosure with adult tickets priced at £15 and Senior Citizens £12, car park paddock £5 and car park course is free.

• Food and Drink: Cartmel Restaurant serves a 3 course luncheon as well as afternoon teas/ coffee (For reservations call 015395 36340). There is also the Champagne & Seafood Bar, a Pimms tent and snack bars providing tea, coffee and baguettes. 
  
• Viewing: There is uncovered viewing from the stand as well as access to the Parade Ring. If you get here early, you can also park your car next to the rail to get a good view of the action.

• Food & Drink: Inside the Course Enclosure there is a public bar and various fast food outlets. There is also plenty of space for picnics or you can use one of the specially built BBQ areas.
  
• Viewing: Situated on the opposite side of the finishing straight from the paddock there is no grandstand. However there is plenty of areas where you can get a great trackside view. This Enclosure is also home to the fairground, trade stands and market stalls. You can't access the Parade Ring or Winner's Enclosure from this Enclosure.

  There is free admission for children. There’s also plenty of entertainment in the traditional funfair in the Course Enclosure, including dodgems, rides and a Ferris wheel.

  There are Tote and Ladbrokes facilities in both areas of the course as well as rail bookmakers.
