Racing at Chester's historic Roodee course dates back to the early 16th century, making it the country's oldest racecourse.
It is also one of the most appealing with views of the city walls, River Dee and the Welsh Hills.
At 239 yards it also provides the shortest straight in the country.
What to Wear
Customers in the County Stand: Long Room and Concourse and in all hospitality and restaurant facilities, are required to observe a strict dress code. Gentleman are required to wear a suit jacket, collar and tie. Ladies are required to wear smart dress. The racecourse reserves the right to prohibit racegoers who are incorrectly dressed from entering the County Stand.
County Stand
N.B. For all meetings, the Stand is split into County Concourse (ground floor only) and County Long Room tickets which are slightly more expensive as they give access to the long room and unreserved seating of the May Festival.
- Tickets: £28 - £41
- Food and Drink: The Turf Restaurant is situated in the Concourse room, which also has several bars and food outlets. The Long Room on the first floor serves light snacks and refreshments.
- Viewing: This section has the most commanding views of the course, including overlooking views of the Winning Post. There is access to the Winner's Enclosure and the Parade Ring, via the subway.
- Dress: Men must wear a suit, jacket and tie. No jeans or trainers.
Tattersalls
- Tickets: £23-£27
- Food & Drink: There are food and drink areas including the Champagne, Seafood and Pavilion bar. Also there is a Harry Ramsden fish and chip shop.
- Viewing: There are views over the racecourse from the grandstand. You can also gain entry to the Winner’s Enclosure and Parade Ring.
- Dress: Smart casual dress is advised.
Dee Stand
- Tickets:£11 - £12
- Food & Drink: Fast food outlets offer a range of hot and cold snacks.
- Viewing: For less money, there is still very good viewing further down the course in this Enclosure.
Course
- Tickets: £7 / £9
- Food & Drink: Fast food outlets provide a choice of snacks and meals.
- Viewing: The historical Roodee provides the location for the open course.
