Fontwell Park is a picturesque racecourse in a rural setting and is easy to reach next to the A27 between Chichester and Arundel in West Sussex. It is the only figure of eight jumps track in the country. There is also a new Parade Ring and Winners' Enclosure to enhance your view of the horses before and after each race.
There is a 40 bedroom hotel (Innkeepers Lodge - for booking please call 0870 243 0500) on site and the course is just three miles from Barnham Station which has direct links to London, Brighton and Portsmouth. There is a bus service to the course every race day starting two hours before the first race.
There is racing at Fontwell Park every month of the year apart from July. A major redevelopment is planned for 2009 when, subject to planning permission, a new £7.5m Grandstand will be built in the Premier Enclosure. This will mean that the course will operate "one enclosure" for the entire 2009 racing programme. Racing will definitely go-ahead during the re-development. The Grandstand is scheduled to open in March/April 2010.
The first feature meeting of 2009 is the £60,000 totesport.com National Spirit Hurdle fixture on Sunday 22nd February. The race usually attracts a host of Cheltenham Festival entrants and was won this year by Lough Derg.
At the weekend and evening fixtures there is always additional entertainment to enhance your experience of a day/night at Fontwell Park. Some of the other attractions include live bands, fun fairs, motor shows, food and drink fairs, mascot races and pony racing.
